About this site

This website is produced for us at no cost to the group whatsoever by Paul Weymouth, the original idea was to have a basic site that would hold information about the group and lights to enable us to explain who we were, and obtain feedback on what we had done. The biggest issue facing our group for many years was the perception by the public that we were infact paid contractors or the council - and much abuse was received for many years!

In late 2009 Paul decided to setup a ‘basic’ site using one of the many website builders online, but using a paid for package (paid by Paul) and therefore more flexible hosting site to enable melkshamchristmaslights.co.uk to go live.

The site was built using reasonably basic information, and a small gallery etc was added, plus the option to add feedback etc, this site saw us through the winter of 2009 and into 2010, and proved popular. Soon after the lights had been removed for the year Paul felt that as usual, a better site could be built - the only problem being absolutely no web design or computer skills whatsoever, a steep learning curve was about to begin!

May 2010 and melkshamchristmaslights.com was born - why not stick with .co.uk? , Well fairly simple really, we didn’t know how to transfer it! And logically or not .com appeared a more ‘professional’ address considering the global interest in our Town, mainly from the wonderful lights at Longford Road.

It took a few months of playing to come up with a reasonable site, not a million miles away from today’s version, and this site took off as we went into the 2010 Christmas season. As time has gone on, nearly 4000 visitors later and we hope that this year everybody take a look! From no knowledge at all, to a now ‘reasonable’ idea of what he is doing Paul has created this, and a few other sites for groups within the town. Currently learning the programming of Flash based animations ( brace yourselves…! ) And using the same skills for design that make the lights happen, and hoping to continue developing this excellent outlet for our towns lights.
